MAI enters Atlanta with acquisition of Waypoint

Try Dealroom →, a fee-only registered investment advisor that manages approximately $490 million in assets and serves more than 100 households. Terms were not disclosed.

What it means: Waypoint's founders, Brad McGrew and Matthew Woods, will remain as market leaders at MAI. The acquisition gives Waypoint access to MAI's integrated planning, family-office, alternatives, lending and operational resources while preserving its relationship-driven model. For MAI, the deal marks an entry into Atlanta, a market it has identified as strategically important.

The signal: The transaction reflects continued consolidation among registered investment advisors, as smaller firms seek the scale, alternatives access and operational support of national platforms while maintaining local client relationships. Waypoint joined MAI effective August 14, 2026.
