The terms were not disclosed, but Forbes estimates that Ferrero is paying more than $850 million for the company, including Stein's estimated two-thirds stake. The estimated price represents more than four times Purely Elizabeth's estimated $250 million trailing-12-month revenue. The transaction is expected to close in the coming months, subject to regulatory approvals.

Financial details: Forbes estimates that Stein will receive about $400 million after taxes and remain chief executive officer after closing. Purely Elizabeth generated approximately $150 million in annual revenue by the end of 2024, according to the article, and had more than doubled sales over the following two years. The brand was already profitable in 2024, and Forbes says it was on track to exceed $300 million in revenue by the end of 2026. The company says it now sells nearly one bag of granola every 0.7 seconds and is available in more than 30,000 US stores.

Why it matters: Founded in 2009 after Stein began selling baking mixes from her Manhattan apartment, Purely Elizabeth has grown into a portfolio of about 40 granola, oatmeal and cereal products sold through supermarkets and specialty retailers. The company raised a $3 million Series A in 2017 from investors including General Mills' venture arm, followed by a $50 million Series B in 2022 from investors including Fresh Del Monte Produce, Swander Pace Capital and SEMCAP. Ferrero plans to support product innovation, distribution and international expansion while keeping Purely Elizabeth as a standalone business and preserving its ingredient and quality standards. The acquisition extends Ferrero's push into breakfast and better-for-you foods following its purchase of WK Kellogg Co, alongside brands such as Eat Natural, FULFIL, Power Crunch and Bold Snacks.
