Bios Life raises $25M seed for AI cancer surveillance startup

Why now? Richardson stepped down from BioNTech's management board in September 2025 after helping steer the German biotech through the Covid vaccine era and back into oncology. He says he saw a widening gap between sophisticated new cancer treatments and the industry's ability to detect disease early. High-risk patients, he argues, lack effective tools once they leave an oncologist's day-to-day care.

The team: Richardson is joined by former BioNTech senior vice-president Zach Taylor and Logan Frank, previously director of breast radiology at the University of Missouri.

What's the endgame? Richardson told Endpoints News the company plans a mobile app, a regional US roll-out in 2026, and "digital twins" for each client to assess cancer risk over time.

What's the product? Tempus will provide oncology data for predictive modelling, while Ambry GeneticsDealroom has a profile for this one. The startup also holds rights to an InstaDeep AI model, the Nucleotide Transformer, which analyses the impact of genetic variation across the genome. Richardson said Bios Life intends to publish its first research on the model's performance in 2026.

The signal: The round reflects a broader push to move cancer care upstream, from treatment towards early detection. With partnerships spanning Tempus, InstaDeep, and Ambry Genetics, Bios Life is betting that genomic data and AI can catch disease before it becomes hard to treat.
