"Becoming part of the Novant Health network allows us to continue delivering expert surgical care while connecting patients to additional resources and a more coordinated care experience," said Gregory Bebb, a board-certified surgeon and director of the breast surgery center.
Why now? The practice has been investing in growth. It moved into a new 20,000-square-foot facility at 2739 Iron Gate Drive in 2024, on a site it bought for $925,000 in 2023, after operating from Medical Center Drive since 1972.
"For more than 50 years, Wilmington Surgical Associates has expertly cared for our community," said Laurie Whalin, president of Novant Health's Coastal Region. "We look forward to strengthening our relationship and working with these experienced physicians."
The signal: The deal continues a broader push by health systems to fold independent physician practices into their networks, tightening the link between hospitals and the specialists who already work within them.
