Santander lists €1.43B securitisation fund on BME, backed by EIB Group

What's the deal?

BME's fixed-income market, AIAF, has admitted a €1.43 billion Banco Santander securitisation fund to trading, backed by the European Investment Bank (EIB) Group through the EIB and the European Investment Fund (EIF).

Who is putting in what?

The EIB will invest roughly €476 million and the EIF €400 million — the latter via a guarantee embedded in the class A2 notes — alongside other private-sector investors.

What's the endgame?

The securitisation aims to expand financing for Spanish small and medium-sized enterprises and midcaps. The stated goals are to fund the green transition, boost competitiveness, create jobs, and retain talent.

Why now?

It is the first securitisation in Spain executed with a guarantee embedded directly in the securitisation notes. Backing securitisation of loans to smaller companies is one of several initiatives being pushed by working groups that include BME, the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV), and other players.

The signal:

The push reflects a broader effort to reinforce Spain's capital markets. BME's fixed-income markets registered €16.88 billion in securitisations in 2025, up 8.9% year on year; by the end of June 2026, the figure stood at €8.63 billion.
