ChipAgents adds $60M to Series A as Micron, MediaTek back AI chip design

What's the endgame? Designing chips can cost hundreds of millions of dollars and take years using traditional tools. ChipAgents deploys AI agents — programs that make decisions and execute complex tasks with little human oversight — to automate that work.
Where's the biggest gain? The company sees the largest speedup in verifying that a chip will function as intended, chief executive William Wang told Reuters. "A big part of that is actually making sure there are no bugs," Wang said.
How fast is it growing? ChipAgents reported 6x ARR growth in the first half of 2026 — a sharp deceleration from the 140x year-over-year ARR growth it cited alongside its $50M Series A1 in February and the 50x it cited at its original Series A last October. The company says it is now deployed across more than 120 semiconductor companies, up from 80 in February and 50 in October.
The extension — an "A2" tranche — brings ChipAgents' total funding to $134 million. The startup, headquartered in Santa Clara, California, has about 64 employees.
Why now? Earlier this week, ChipAgents said it was expanding its collaboration with Nvidia to develop a specialised AI model focused on chip design. Wang declined to say whether Nvidia was an investor.
The signal: The backing of Micron, MediaTek, and Ericsson — hardware and telecom players with direct stakes in silicon — points to industry appetite for AI-driven design tools. Established players Cadence and Synopsys have already built AI into their software and launched agent products, signalling a broader race to automate the costliest parts of chip design.
