Alpha Design AI, the company behind ChipAgents, is a generative AI startup that provides agentic AI tools for the semiconductor industry. Founded in July 2024 by William Wang, the company is headquartered in Santa Clara, California, and aims to accelerate chip design and verification. Alpha Design AI has raised a total of $74 million over three funding rounds. A pre-seed round in October 2024 raised $3.09 million, led by ScOp Venture Capital with participation from others. The company later secured a $21 million Series A round, bringing total funding to $24 million at the time. By February 2026, the company announced an oversubscribed $50 million Series A1 round led by Matter Venture Partners, with participation from Bessemer Venture Partners, Micron, MediaTek, and Ericsson, bringing its total capital to $74 million.

The company's main product, ChipAgents, is an agentic AI platform that integrates into existing code editors to automate and speed up the design, debugging, and verification of Register Transfer Level (RTL) code. The platform uses AI agents to handle tasks like generating RTL design specifications from natural language prompts, autocompleting Verilog code, creating testbenches, and autonomously verifying and debugging code through simulations. This is intended to address the time-consuming nature of chip design and verification, which can account for 60-80% of the total development time. ChipAgents is targeted at hardware engineers and verification teams at semiconductor companies, design houses, and systems companies, with the goal of improving productivity by a factor of ten. Early customers have reported that tasks that once took weeks can be completed in days. The company serves a customer base of 80 leading semiconductor companies.
