Sun* to acquire Japanese-language edtech BABEL Method to bolster talent platform

What's the deal? Sun*Dealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → Inc., a Tokyo-based digital and creative studio, will convert affiliate BABEL MethodDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → Inc. into a subsidiary by underwriting a third-party allotment of shares. Its board approved the move on July 22, 2026.

What does each side do? Sun* runs a "talent platform" that includes "xseeds," a program training IT engineers at top universities across ASEAN and beyond to work in Japan. BABEL Method, founded in 2021, develops the online Japanese speaking test "Japrise" and the online Japanese conversation training service "BABELMETHOD," both aimed at improving foreign workers' Japanese-language skills.

Why now? The two companies have worked together since October 2022, when Sun* adopted Japrise to measure Japanese-language proficiency on its "xseeds Hub" recruitment platform. In January 2026, Sun* made BABEL Method an equity-method affiliate to deepen the partnership.

What's the endgame? Sun* wants to combine xseeds' talent training and supply with BABEL Method's language solutions in a single offering. Bringing the company in-house is meant to speed up decisions and pool resources toward that integrated model.

The signal: The deal ties recruitment and language training more tightly together, as Japan leans on skilled foreign engineers to fill digital-talent gaps. Sun* is betting that language readiness — not just technical skill — is a differentiator in placing overseas workers.
