MercadoLibre raises R$1.5B in fourth debt sale to fuel Brazil credit push

What's the deal? MercadoLibre raised R$1.5 billion (about $295 million) in its fourth public issuance of financial notes (Letras Financeiras) in Brazil. The sale ran through its local unit, Mercado Crédito, and drew demand of roughly R$3.3 billion — 2.2 times the volume offered.

The details: The issuance split into two tranches. The first, R$1.066 billion, matures in two years and pays CDI plus 0.39% a year; the second, R$434 million, matures in three years and pays CDI plus 0.47%.

What's the endgame? MercadoLibre said the proceeds will fund the expansion of its credit, payments, and investment operations in Brazil. The company called this the strongest demand across its four public note issuances since 2024.

Why now? The raise diversifies long-term funding as MercadoLibre scales its financial arm. "The operation broadens and diversifies the company's long-term funding sources," said Lourenço Cassandre, senior treasury director for MercadoLibre and Mercado PagoDealroom has a profile for this one. The signal: A quick return to the debt market — the fourth issuance in roughly two years — shows MercadoLibre leaning on local capital to back its fast-growing lending business, with investor appetite outpacing supply.
