Vercel acquires Egypt’s Stakpak in third deal in a year

What's the deal? Vercel, the American cloud platform valued at $9.3bn, has acquired StakpakDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, an Egyptian-founded startup that built one of the first open-source autonomous DevOps agents. The purchase, announced in July 2026 by Stakpak founder George Fahmy, is Vercel's third acquisition in a year. Financial terms were not disclosed.

What does Stakpak do? It began as an AI assistant that let developers generate infrastructure-as-code from natural language, working with tools such as Terraform and OpenTofu. It later became a production DevOps agent that the company said could shrink infrastructure tasks from four hours to roughly 50 minutes.

The team bootstrapped for two years out of Cairo before raising a $500,000 pre-seed round announced in early 2025. That round was led by P1 VenturesDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, with participation from Digital Currency Group, 500 Global, and Instabug co-founders Moataz Soliman and Omar Gabr. Fahmy relocated to San Francisco but kept the core engineering team in Egypt.

What's the endgame? Vercel is repositioning beyond front-end hosting. Chief executive Guillermo Rauch brands the expanded offering the "AI Cloud," betting the next wave of software will be built by autonomous agents that need to be deployed, authenticated, and managed.

Why now? The company behind the Next.js framework acquired NuxtLabs in July 2025 and authentication library Better Auth in July 2026. That deal brought in "agent identity" technology, giving autonomous agents revocable credentials. Stakpak extends that foundation from identity to the compute and network layers.

In September 2025, Vercel closed a $300m Series F round co-led by Accel and GIC at a $9.3bn valuation. By February 2026 its annualised recurring revenue reached a $340m run rate, up from $100m at the start of 2024. Rauch says 30% of applications deployed on the platform now originate from AI agents, and he has signalled readiness for a stock market listing.

The signal: By knitting together deployment, authentication, and now infrastructure management, Vercel is assembling an integrated platform for a world where software is increasingly built and run by agents. The string of deals also shows how startups from outside traditional tech hubs are shaping that new stack.
