Korea PIM raises $27M convertible to build robot and AI data centre parts

What's the deal? Korea PIMDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a metal injection molding (MIM) specialist, has raised 40 billion KRW (about $27 million) through a post-IPO convertible bond to expand into humanoid robots and AI data centre components. The third-round private convertible bond carries a 0% coupon and maturity rate, with a conversion price of 54,431 KRW per share.

Why now? The company says multiple institutional investors backed the round after rating its growth potential highly. It plans to channel the entire sum into new business lines.

What's the endgame? Korea PIM will build Micro MIM manufacturing equipment, reducer molds, and reducer design software to supply a global humanoid robot maker, alongside titanium powder production lines. Reducers are core parts in robot joint actuators, with demand expected to climb as physical AI and humanoid markets grow.

On the data centre side, the company is expanding its Vietnam plant to serve global IT clients. It recently won an order, via a US firm, for products used in Google's AI data centre cooling solutions.

What could go wrong? Both robotics and AI infrastructure remain early-stage bets, and much of the projected demand depends on markets that are still forming. The convertible structure also leaves existing shareholders exposed to dilution if the stock converts.

A company representative said it would "strengthen technological competitiveness through continuous research and development and continue earnings growth," adding that it aims to "expand results based on overseas references" as domestic physical AI and data centre projects ramp up.

The signal: The raise reflects how component makers are repositioning around two fast-moving hardware trends — humanoid robotics and AI data centres — where demand for specialised parts is outpacing supply. For Korea PIM, converting existing IT relationships into higher-value work is the near-term test.
