Wonder buys Mighty Quinn's BBQ, its second full restaurant acquisition

What's the deal? Food hall and delivery company Wonder has acquired Mighty Quinn's BBQ, an eight-unit fast casual chain based in New York City. Terms were not disclosed. The barbecue brand joins Wonder's roster of 30 restaurant concepts.

What each side brings: Mighty Quinn's was founded in 2012 by James Beard-winning pitmaster Hugh Mangum, caterer Christo Gourmos, and Wall Street analyst Micha Magid. It has grown to five New York locations plus one each in New Jersey, Florida, and Maryland, and expanded into franchising and packaged grocery meats.

Why it fits: Mighty Quinn's runs a hub-and-spoke model, smoking meat at a central site and delivering it to restaurants. That mirrors Wonder's commissary system, which prepares food centrally before shipping it to stores for staff to finish.

What changes? Management appears to be staying on. "Now, as part of Wonder, the ride is about to speed up and we can't wait," co-CEO Magid wrote on LinkedIn.

What's the endgame? The deal is part of Wonder's strategy of buying small, local brands and scaling them across its high-tech food halls. It gives the company recognisable names to offer alongside homegrown concepts like Limesalt and Burger Baby.

Why now? This is Wonder's second outright restaurant purchase. In February 2026, it bought the single-unit Blue Ribbon Fried ChickenDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, another New York concept. Its other brands were created in-house or licensed.

What could go wrong? Barbecue is notoriously hard to scale, as the cooking is complex and time-consuming, and regional tastes limit how large chains can grow. Wonder is no stranger to the challenge — it already runs a barbecue concept, Tejas Barbecue, and in March 2026 began testing an Indian concept, Dabba.

The signal: Founded in 2018 by Diapers.com and Jet.com entrepreneur Marc LoreDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, Wonder has raised more than $2 billion since 2021, with another $600 million in the works. With nearly 160 locations across 10 East Coast states and Washington, D.C., plus ownership of Blue Apron, Grubhub, and Spyce, Wonder is betting acquisitions can speed its expansion.
