Uruguay's Infinia raises $13.5M Series A led by Bain Capital, Variant

What's the deal?

Uruguayan fintech Infinia has raised $13.5 million in a Series A round co-led by Bain Capital and Variant. Y Combinator, Lattice, Varrock, Reverie, Decacorn, G2, and Tekton Ventures also participated.

What does it do?

Infinia connects traditional banking networks with digital-asset systems, building the technical and regulatory rails that link legacy clearing corridors to digital ledgers. Its platform handles local KYC/KYB mandates and enables automated multi-currency settlement and real-time treasury clearing.

What's the endgame?

The company plans to use the capital to accelerate expansion across its main markets in Latin America, Africa, and Asia. Its clients include fintechs, marketplaces, and corporate platforms such as Stripe/Bridge, OpenFX, Kast, and Despegar.

Who's behind it?

Infinia was co-founded in 2023 by chief executive officer Ianai Urwicz, an early dLocal team member, and chief technology officer Alejandro Rettig, who brings 25 years in financial and telecoms systems. The pair launched the company after joining Y Combinator's winter 2023 batch, selected from more than 20,000 applicants; the startup now employs 20 people.

In their words:

"Infinia is the default infrastructure layer that allows companies in emerging markets to operate seamlessly across on-chain networks and traditional financial services, preparing for a world where money moves at the speed of code," Urwicz said.

The signal:

The round marks a notable step up for a startup barely two years old, and lands as investors keep backing infrastructure that bridges traditional finance and digital assets in emerging markets. Uruguay, home to dLocal, continues to punch above its weight as a fintech exporter.
