Ant Group takes 28% stake in China's Boohee Health as AI health app AQ passes 100M users
Ant Group has completed a strategic investment in China's Boohee Health, becoming its largest external shareholder with a stake of over 28%. The late-stage deal deepens the two companies' cooperation in weight management and AI-driven health services. Founder and chief executive officer Ma Haihua remains Boohee Health's largest overall shareholder.
Boohee Health has operated for nearly two decades in weight management, nutritional intervention, and chronic disease prevention. It serves 200 million registered users and 30 million annual active users, with a food database of more than 1,600,000 entries.
Ant Group's AI health app AQ, launched in June 2025, has passed 100 million users and handles more than 10 million health queries a day. Integrating Boohee Health's dietary knowledge base will strengthen AQ's dietary tracking and weight management.
Weight management is "only the starting point," said Zhang Junjie, vice president of Ant Group and head of its health business. Ant Group aims to evolve AQ into an AI doctor-like assistant and personal health coach. At the end of June 2026, AQ launched a nationwide push encouraging users to collectively lose 50 million kilograms.
The two companies will also explore health-related e-commerce, joint model training, and broader ecosystem development.
The deal comes as Ant expands abroad. Ant International recently opened a Global Development Centre in Kuala Lumpur, backed by 1,500 fintech roles, extending the group's reach beyond its home market.
Ant Group is betting that consumer-facing AI health tools can scale into a broader medical services business. Locking in a two-decade-old specialist gives its fast-growing app the professional data and behavioural models that raw user numbers alone cannot supply.
