Tekever acquires Portuguese AI startup Cloudsweep to deepen software push

What does Cloudsweep do? The Lisbon-based startup builds AI tools for software development, analysing application code alongside billing and telemetry data to root out cloud waste. Tekever said Cloudsweep stood out from its creation for the quality of its team and its innovation in applying AI to software development.

What's the endgame? Tekever said the acquisition supports its strategy of reinforcing the national innovation ecosystem, attracting talent and accelerating critical AI, software-engineering and autonomous-systems capabilities for Europe. It framed the move as reinforcing a technological shift already under way internally, using AI as a native element of its engineering processes to build more sophisticated defence, security and monitoring solutions.

Why now? The deal follows a period of expansion for Tekever, which employs more than 1,300 people across Portugal, the UK, France, Estonia, Ukraine and the US. Tekever said integrating Cloudsweep would help scale that expertise internationally, with critical technologies made in Portugal and used by governments and organisations across Europe.

The signal: The acquisition marks another step in Tekever's shift from a drone hardware maker into a broader AI-first, software-heavy defence-tech platform — a positioning that has helped make it one of Europe's newest unicorns.
