Shengshu raises record $500M Series C for China's world model push
What's the deal? Chinese AI startup Shengshu Technology has raised $500 million in a Series C round, which it says is the largest single financing in China's general world model sector. The company will use the funds for model research and technological innovation.
Why now? The round closes in July 2026, three months after Shengshu raised a 2 billion-yuan (≈$293 million) Series B led by Alibaba Cloud in April 2026, and five months after a 600 million-yuan (≈$82 million) Series A+ in February 2026. Founded in March 2023, the startup has rapidly climbed the ranks of China's AI video players.
What's the endgame? Shengshu is building foundational models across multimodal generation, real-time interaction, and physical-world action. Its Vidu Q video generation series has penetrated production workflows in comics, short dramas, advertising, e-commerce, animation, and film.
The company is also pushing into robotics. In December 2025 it open-sourced Motus, which it describes as the world’s first unified world model for “perception, prediction, and action,” and in April 2026 launched robot control model Motubrain, which hit a 95.8% average success rate on the RoboTwin 2.0 embodied intelligence benchmark.
By the numbers: Among all-time Series C rounds in China's AI sector, Shengshu’s $500 million raise ranks in the top 1% across a sample of 77 deals — a clear outlier even in a well-funded field.
What could go wrong? The general world model race is crowded, with Chinese giants and state-backed funds pouring capital into multimodal platforms. Rivals such as PixVerse have announced large rounds and unicorn valuations, raising the stakes for anyone chasing the same short-drama and mobile video markets.
The signal: A $500 million raise larger than Shengshu’s already sizeable Series B marks a sharp escalation in capital flowing into China’s world-model and video-generation space. It effectively anoints Shengshu as one of the country’s flagship bets on world-model-based AGI — and pressures competitors to match its war chest.
