The details: The issue comprises 150,000 NCDs with a face value of US$1.36K each, repayable as a bullet at maturity. The coupon will be set via price bidding on the BSE's Electronic Bidding Platform.
Why now? This is a quick re-raise. In late 2025, Tata Power already placed US$271.6M in privately placed NCDs across 3- and 5-year tenors, with coupons discovered at 7.05% and 7.25%.
What's the endgame? Tata Power — active in power generation, transmission, and distribution — routinely uses debt to fund expansion. The company has earmarked a US$2.04B investment over five years in Mumbai's network and a separate US$679M project for a 400 kV network in Tumakuru, Karnataka.
What could go wrong? The NCDs are unsecured, and equity holders are advised to watch the company's rising debt levels against its capital-intensive expansion plans. Its ability to service obligations will hinge on project execution.
The signal: The AA+ rating and repeated ability to place sizeable tranches at mid-7% yields point to steady investor confidence in regulated-utility cash flows.
