Gaussion raises $28M to make any battery charge faster

What's the deal?

Gaussion, a London-based deep tech startup, has closed a $28 million Series B round to commercialise its battery intelligence technology.

The round was co-led by BGF and AlbionVC, with follow-on participation from Autotech Ventures, UCL Technology Fund, DN Capital, and Future Ventures.

That brings total capital raised to over $44 million since the company spun out of University College London and the Faraday Institution in 2022.

Why now?

Gaussion is already working with leading vehicle, aerospace, energy-storage, and consumer electronics manufacturers.

The fresh funds will accelerate commercial deployment as demand for faster charging and longer-lasting batteries climbs across these sectors.

Its technology uses an external magnetic field and AI-enabled control software to charge any lithium-ion battery faster — with no change to chemistry or design. Use cases range from charging electric vehicles and drones in minutes to powering data centres during demand spikes.

The company, led by chief executive officer and co-founder Tom Heenan , holds 66 patent applications across 17 patent families and operates a 40,000ft² facility in London.

What could go wrong?

Retrofitting existing battery packs is a tough sell to conservative manufacturers wedded to proven designs.

Scaling from pilot partnerships to mass deployment is also where many deep tech startups stall, and rivals are racing to crack the same fast-charging problem.

The signal:

Dealroom classifies Gaussion as a breakout-stage company, and the backer line-up reflects that ambition — UCL Technology Fund anchors its academic roots while Autotech Ventures signals a clear bet on the automotive and EV-charging angle. By retrofitting intelligence onto existing lithium-ion packs rather than reinventing the cell, Gaussion is positioning itself as a control layer the industry can adopt without abandoning proven chemistry.
