Upside raises $20M Series A to tackle housing instability in healthcare
Upside, a Fort Lauderdale-based housing-stability platform built for healthcare, has raised $20M in Series A funding. Aquiline led the round, with participation from Flare Capital Partners, 645 Ventures, Freestyle Capital, Triple Impact Capital, and Techstars. Led by CEO Jake Rothstein, Upside partners with health plans and employers to identify members facing housing instability and connect them to safe housing. The model pairs dedicated Care Guides — licensed social workers and housing specialists — with an AI-supported platform that orchestrates housing at scale.
Upside plans to use the funds to accelerate national expansion and build out go-to-market capabilities across health plans and employers. It will also deepen investment in its AI-supported delivery platform. As part of the deal, Aquiline's Avery Klinger and Flare Capital's Dan Gebremedhin will join Upside's board of directors.
Upside's Series A draws a notably mixed cap table, pairing healthcare-focused backers like lead investor Aquiline and Flare Capital Partners with generalist funds such as 645 Ventures and Freestyle Capital. That breadth signals investor conviction that housing stability is becoming a mainstream healthcare cost lever, not a niche social-impact play.
