JUPUS raises €13M Series A to scale its AI assistant for law firms
Cologne-based legal-tech startup JUPUS has raised €13 million in a Series A round to grow its AI assistant for law firms.
The round was led by Semapa Next, with NRW.BANK, NRW.Venture, Acton Capital, and High-Tech Gründerfonds also taking part. NRW.BANK invested €3 million through its venture fund.
JUPUS builds an "AI secretariat" that handles administrative work for lawyers — fielding client enquiries, booking appointments, and drafting complete legal documents.
Germany faces a shortage of legal assistants, leaving small and mid-sized firms stretched thin.
JUPUS pitches its tool as a way to ease that gap, promising fully automated, GDPR-compliant communication.
"Artificial intelligence can help relieve skilled workers and make processes more efficient," said Johanna Antonie Tjaden-Schulte, a board member at NRW.BANK.
Automating legal correspondence carries real risk: errors in drafted documents or mishandled client data could expose firms to liability.
Data protection is a particular concern in Germany, where GDPR compliance is non-negotiable.
Dealroom classifies JUPUS as a breakout-stage company, and the Series A — led by investment fund Semapa Next with returning backers Acton Capital and High-Tech Gründerfonds — reflects growing investor conviction that AI can plug Germany's legal-assistant shortage. With its workflow automation now extending from client intake to full document drafting, the challenge will be proving that automation holds up under the country's strict GDPR regime as it eyes the rest of Europe.
