Telepatia AI raises $33M Series A led by a16z to build an AI Doctor for Latin American hospitals

What's the deal? Telepatia AIDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a startup building clinical AI tools for Latin American hospitals, has closed a $33M Series A led by Andreessen Horowitz. The round brings its total funding to $42M.

The company's platform acts as a copilot for physicians — transcribing visits in real time, generating structured health records, and delivering evidence-based decision support. It claims to save doctors more than two hours of admin work daily and improve protocol adherence by over 15%.

Telepatia has processed over five million consultations across more than 20 healthcare institutions. Palantir's Shyam Sankar and Nubank's David Vélez both sit on the board.

Other investors in the round include A* CapitalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, Canary, Abstract Ventures, Picus Capital, and SV Angel. The company had previously raised $9M in a seed round in October 2025.

Why now? An estimated 43% of deaths in Latin America are considered preventable — a staggering figure that points to systemic gaps in clinical care. Founder Nicolás Abad, who is affiliated with Stanford, has said his father's death motivated him to tackle healthcare shortfalls in the region.

Most healthtech investment in Latin America has gone to telemedicine and pharmacy delivery. Telepatia takes a different approach: rather than replacing the doctor-patient interaction, it augments it by surfacing evidence and handling paperwork. The physician stays in the loop and retains clinical responsibility.

What could go wrong? AI decision support in healthcare is a regulatory minefield, and Latin America's fragmented regulatory landscape adds complexity. Plugging into legacy hospital systems across multiple countries is no small technical challenge either.

The free tier for private-practice physicians could help drive adoption but raises questions about long-term monetisation beyond institutional contracts.

The signal: With five million consultations processed while still at the early stage, Telepatia's traction-to-funding ratio is notable — and a16z's lead suggests the firm sees clinical AI in emerging markets as a category worth owning early. Board seats held by Palantir's Shyam Sankar and Nubank's David Vélez hint at a strategic playbook that blends enterprise data infrastructure with Latin America's largest fintech distribution network, a combination that could accelerate hospital adoption far faster than a pure healthtech startup typically manages.
