Causa Prima raises $10M pre-seed led by Creandum for agent-to-agent B2B payments

What's the deal? Madrid- and Munich-based Causa PrimaDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has raised $10M in pre-seed funding to build a shared network where AI agents for buyers and suppliers automatically handle invoices, disputes, and payment-term negotiations. Creandum — the firm behind Klarna, Spotify, and Trade Republic — led the round, with support from Kfund, HelloWorldDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, Angel InvestDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, and angels from Qonto, Pennylane, SAP, ING, SoFi, LIDL, and DeepMind.

Co-founder Maex Ament invented dynamic discounting and co-founded Taulia, which SAP acquired in 2022 after it processed $50B per quarter for five million suppliers. Co-founder Henrik Gebbing grew digital asset firm Finoa to €10B in assets under custody. Third co-founder Philip Stanislaus led more than 600 enterprise security audits at Oak Security.

Why now? The accounts payable automation market was worth $3.85B in 2023 and could reach $7.8B by 2031 — but those forecasts assume humans still do the work. As companies deploy AI agents, the email chains, missed follow-ups, and weeks-long invoice disputes that define B2B payments look increasingly obsolete.

"The problem in B2B finance was never inside a single company, but in the space between two," Ament said. "Once both sides run agents that negotiate in real time, the disputes and fixed payment terms that have defined this industry for centuries stop being necessary."

Causa Prima's network lets agents on both sides settle disputes in seconds and surface early-payment discounts that manual processes often miss. The company says it already serves more than 3,000 active accounts.

What could go wrong? The competitive field is crowded and well-capitalised. SAP Taulia — the company Ament himself co-founded — sits inside one of the world's largest enterprise software groups. Coupa launched AI-powered B2B payment analytics in early 2025, and AvidXchange was acquired by TPG and Corpay in January 2025 for $2.2B.

Unlike those platforms, Causa Prima argues it operates a two-sided network rather than automating just one side of a transaction. Whether that distinction holds up against incumbents with deep customer bases remains to be seen.

The signal: Creandum's willingness to write a $10M cheque at pre-seed — a stage where European rounds are typically a fraction of that — underscores how seriously top-tier VCs are treating the shift from workflow automation to autonomous agent infrastructure. The investor syndicate, stacked with operators from Qonto, Pennylane, and SAP, suggests the smart money sees inter-company AI networks, not single-sided tools, as the next defensible layer in B2B fintech.
