Muybridge raises $16M to replace physical cameras with software

What's the deal? Oslo-based Muybridge has closed an oversubscribed $16M Series A to scale its "weightless camera" — a software-defined imaging platform that replaces fleets of physical broadcast cameras with compact arrays of hundreds of 4K sensors and a proprietary GPU software stack.

The round was led by Investinor, Fairpoint, IdekapitalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, and RunwayFBUDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, with participation from Nordic tech founders and operators. The funding will accelerate international expansion across Europe and the US, grow the commercial team, and extend the technology roadmap.

Why now? In the past year, Muybridge deployed its platform across major European football leagues, the US Open, ATP Tour tennis, NBA, NHL, PGA Tour golf, rugby, and Premier Padel. Those beachheads validated the technology on elite stages — and generated demand the company now needs to meet.

In September 2025, Muybridge hired Aneesh Rajaram as chief commercial officer, signalling a shift from pilot deployments to repeatable, high-velocity sales. The company's commercial model runs through partnerships with technology providers, managed service providers, and system integrators.

What could go wrong? The broadcast industry is notoriously conservative and built on entrenched relationships between leagues, rights holders, and production companies. Convincing those stakeholders to swap proven physical camera rigs for an entirely software-based alternative is a steep sell — particularly when any on-air failure would be visible to millions.

Muybridge also faces the challenge of scaling across multiple sports with very different production requirements simultaneously, all while expanding into non-sports verticals like live entertainment, security, and physical AI.

The signal: Three of the four co-leads — Fairpoint CapitalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, Idekapital, and RunwayFBU — are Nordic investment funds backing a deep-tech hardware-software hybrid at Series A, reflecting growing confidence in the region's ability to produce platform-level infrastructure companies, not just SaaS plays. Muybridge's rapid deployment across elite sports properties in a single year suggests the broadcast industry's conservatism may be softening faster than expected when the production-cost savings are steep enough.
