Viaim raises RMB 100M to push AI earbuds into global markets with Transsion
What's the deal? Singapore-based AI hardware company viaim has closed an RMB 100M A+ funding round, with smartphone giant Transsion Holdings joining as a strategic investor. The two companies will jointly develop and commercialise proactive AI assistant hardware — devices that can perceive context, make decisions, and act autonomously.
The partnership pairs viaim's workplace AI expertise and its base of 1.5 million registered users across 200 countries with Transsion's manufacturing muscle and distribution network, particularly its dominant smartphone market share across Africa.
Why now? Viaim is shifting from simple recording and transcription tools toward a broader AI Agent platform — one that doesn't just capture meetings but understands context and acts on it. "In the Agent era, once context is unlocked, AI no longer passively responds. It begins to understand, judge, and produce work proactively," said founder and chief executive officer Ma Xiao.
The company's flagship product, OpenNote, exemplifies this direction. The open-ear earbud features AI-powered real-time translation across 78-plus languages and 145 dialects, dynamic sound-wave cancellation, and up to 53 hours of battery life. It has won both a 2025 Red Dot Design Award and Japan's Good Design Award.
What could go wrong? AI hardware startups face a brutal track record. Consumer devices like the Humane Ai Pin and Rabbit R1 have struggled to find lasting product-market fit despite significant hype. Viaim's bet that workplace-focused, wearable AI agents will fare better remains unproven at scale.
Transsion's strength is concentrated in Africa and other emerging markets — regions with enormous growth potential but also price sensitivity that could limit margins on premium AI hardware.
The signal: Viaim sits at the early growth stage, according to Dealroom, and this strategic round — anchored by a manufacturing and distribution giant rather than a traditional VC — suggests the company is prioritising market access over pure capital. With Transsion's proven playbook of scaling affordable hardware across price-sensitive emerging markets, the partnership is a bet that the next wave of AI wearables will be won on distribution reach, not just Silicon Valley hype.
