Shenzhen's Gongda Laser closes Series C worth hundreds of millions of yuan
What's the deal? Shenzhen-based Gongda Laser, a maker of high-power green fibre laser systems, has closed a Series C round worth several hundred million yuan. Guanghe Ventures and Fortune Capital co-led the round, with participation from funds linked to optical-transceiver giant Innolight (via Hechuang Zhiyuan), construction-equipment maker Sany GroupDealroom has a profile for this one. Why now? Gongda Laser says it is the first company in the world to deliver a 4kW quasi-single-mode continuous green laser — the highest power level in the category globally. Its lasers are already shipping at scale in lithium-battery production, semiconductor manufacturing, and high-end equipment fabrication, three sectors where demand for precision laser processing is surging.
The fresh capital will fund further R&D in green fibre laser technology and accelerate commercialisation at its subsidiary Xihe Additive, which focuses on copper-based metal 3D printing.
What could go wrong? The investor line-up mixes financial and strategic backers, but that also means Gongda Laser must serve multiple stakeholders with different priorities. Scaling advanced laser hardware across several end-markets simultaneously — batteries, chips, and additive manufacturing — is capital-intensive and technically demanding.
