Deep Forestry raises €3M to map the world's forests tree by tree

What's the deal? Deep ForestryDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Swedish robotics and AI startup, has closed a €3M funding round to scale its autonomous under-canopy drone system — technology that produces the first precision single-tree inventory of the world's forests. Fairpoint CapitalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → led the round, with participation from Superorganism, SpatialCapital, The Arbor Day Foundation's Impact Fund, First Gate Invest, and others.

The company's drones fly beneath the forest canopy and measure individual tree stems with a mean absolute error of just 1.6cm, independently verified by a third-party government forestry authority. To date, it has completed over 1,000 autonomous flights across multiple continents.

Why now? Forestry is one of the last major industries still relying on manual sampling and rough estimates for basic inventory data. Harvest planning, wildfire fuel-load management, carbon measurement, reforestation monitoring, and biodiversity reporting all depend on accurate tree-level data — and none of those multi-billion-dollar markets can modernise without it.

Deep Forestry says it will use the funds to grow its technical and commercial teams, establish a presence in key forestry markets worldwide, and deepen integrations with partners building on top of its data layer.

What could go wrong? Operating autonomous drones beneath a forest canopy — arguably one of the hardest environments for robotics — introduces significant technical risk at scale. Expanding across continents means navigating wildly different forest types, regulatory regimes, and customer needs. And the startup will need to prove that its precision data can command pricing that supports a venture-scale business, not just a niche service.

The signal: Deep Forestry is classified as an "early growth" deep-tech company spanning 3D AI, autonomous robotics, and computer vision — a profile that suggests this €3M round is about proving commercial traction for a technically differentiated platform rather than funding R&D from scratch. With Fairpoint Capital, an investment fund, leading alongside a mix of climate-focused and spatial-intelligence investors, the cap table itself reflects a bet that precision forestry data is a gateway to a much larger nature-intelligence market.
