Chinese robotics startup Vita raises $13.7M seed round weeks after founding

What's the deal? Vita Dynamics, a Beijing-based robotics startup founded in December 2024, has raised nearly $13.7M (CNY100M) in seed funding. The round was co-led by autonomous driving firm Horizon Robotics and private equity giant Hillhouse Investment.

Other backers include Vision Plus Capital, Baidu VenturesDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, Monad VenturesDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, and Borui Capital — the latter founded by Li Ping, vice chairman of battery giant Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL).

Vita plans to use the funds to build its core team and develop products. It aims to release robot products and related technologies this year.

The startup focuses on embodied intelligence — systems that learn and adapt by interacting with their physical environment rather than relying on pre-programmed algorithms. Its founding team draws heavily from the autonomous driving world: Yu Yinan, former vice chairman at Horizon; Zhao Zhelun, former director of intelligent driving products at Li Auto; and Song Wei, ex-chief architect of Horizon's software platform.

Why now? Physical AI is having a moment. Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang declared at CES in January that "the next frontier of AI is physical AI," unveiling a slate of products aimed at enabling more independent decision-making by machines.

Several major Chinese automotive and tech companies — including GAC Group, Xpeng, Horizon Robotics, and lidar firm RoboSense Technology — are ramping up investments in embodied AI this year, creating a fertile ecosystem for startups like Vita.

What could go wrong? Vita is barely a month old and has yet to release any products. The embodied AI space is attracting serious capital, but the gap between concept and commercially viable robots remains wide. Competition from well-funded incumbents and other startups will be fierce.

The signal: The speed and size of this raise — nearly $14M for a company that didn't exist two months prior — reflects how aggressively Chinese investors are betting on the convergence of AI and robotics. The investor mix, spanning autonomous driving, batteries, and venture capital, signals that embodied AI is becoming a cross-industry priority in China's tech landscape.
