MimeCure raises €3M for inhaled therapy targeting chronic lung diseases

Why now? IPF affects an estimated 2.5 million people worldwide and carries a grim prognosis — untreated patients have a median survival of roughly three years. Current antifibrotic treatments can only slow the disease, not reverse it. There is no approved therapy that restores damaged lung tissue, leaving a significant unmet medical need.
What could go wrong? MimeCure is still in the preclinical stage, meaning years of clinical trials lie ahead before any product could reach patients. Inhaled biologics face complex manufacturing and delivery challenges. And the leap from promising lab results to human efficacy is notoriously difficult — most drug candidates fail in clinical development.
