Veritasi Homes raises $10.5M in Nigeria's debt market, beating its target
What's the deal? Veritasi Homes & Properties Plc, a Nigerian real estate company, raised ₦16.76B (roughly $10.5M) through a Series 2 Commercial Paper issuance — well above its initial ₦12B ($7.5M) target. The 364-day instrument was arranged by Pathway Advisors Limited under Veritasi Homes' newly registered ₦20B Commercial Paper Programme.
The issuance drew strong participation from institutional investors, including pension funds, asset managers, and insurance companies.
Why now? Veritasi Homes has been active in Nigeria's debt capital market. It recently completed a ₦10B three-year, 20% Series 1 Fixed Rate Bond, building credibility with institutional investors and establishing a track record of timely repayment.
That history matters. Repeated successful issuances and on-time redemptions are key signals of creditworthiness in Nigeria's capital market, helping companies deepen relationships with large investors.
What could go wrong? Nigeria's macroeconomic environment remains uncertain. The country has faced persistent currency volatility and high inflation, which can erode returns on naira-denominated instruments and dampen investor appetite over time.
The signal: The oversubscription points to deep liquidity among Nigeria's institutional investors and growing appetite for well-structured corporate debt as an alternative to traditional bank financing. For Nigerian corporates — especially in real estate — the debt capital market is becoming a viable funding channel.
"The strong oversubscription speaks to the market's confidence in Veritasi Homes' performance, governance and repayment track record," said Adekunle Alade, founder and chief executive officer of Pathway Advisors. "We are pleased to continue supporting issuers with strong fundamentals in accessing efficient funding."
