Under the deal, RÓA will leverage Tomizawa Shoten's quality control systems and supply infrastructure to strengthen product development and distribution. Tan will continue to lead the brand.

Why now? Global demand for allergen-free and sustainable food is surging, driven by rising food allergy rates and growing consumer interest in health-conscious, environmentally friendly products. Reducing animal-derived ingredients also cuts greenhouse gas emissions — a selling point that aligns with broader sustainability trends.

Tomizawa Shoten, founded in 1919 as a specialist in baking and confectionery ingredients, sees this as a natural extension of its mission to bring "the joy of cooking to the world." The partnership marks its formal entry into the allergen-free and sustainable food segment.

What could go wrong? Allergen-free products face a persistent challenge: convincing mainstream consumers that taste and quality haven't been sacrificed. Scaling production across multiple markets — Southeast Asia, Japan, Oceania, and the US — without compromising the brand's premium positioning will be complex. Cross-border food regulation adds another layer of difficulty.

The signal: A mature, century-old baking ingredients specialist backing an early-growth allergen-free brand points to how legacy food companies are acquiring their way into high-growth niches rather than building from scratch. RÓA's existing supply relationships with mature players such as Singapore Airlines lend credibility, but the real test will be whether Tomizawa Shoten's infrastructure can help the brand scale across four distinct regional markets without diluting its premium positioning.
