GEEIQ raises $6.8M to help brands measure success in virtual worlds

What's the deal? GEEIQ, a London-based data and analytics platform for games and virtual worlds, has raised £5M ($6.8M) in a round led by YFM Equity Partners. GFR, Haymarket, and existing angel investors also participated.

Founded in 2018, GEEIQ helps brands benchmark performance, identify partners and creators, and optimise spend across platforms like Roblox, Fortnite, and ZEPETO. Its client list includes Walmart, L'Oréal, Gucci, NASCAR, and Warner Bros.

Why now? Brands are pouring more money into virtual worlds as gaming platforms become key channels for reaching younger audiences. CEO and co-founder Charles Hambro drew a parallel to the early days of social media: "Just as social media became a core marketing channel once brands had the data, measurement and intelligence to invest with confidence, the same transition is now happening here."

The round follows earlier backing from YFM and will fund deeper product development, data partnerships, and AI capabilities.

What could go wrong? The virtual worlds space has seen hype cycles before — "metaverse" was a buzzword just a few years ago, and enthusiasm cooled quickly. GEEIQ's value depends on brands continuing to increase spend on these platforms. If the market stalls or consolidates around a few dominant players, the need for a cross-platform analytics layer could shrink.

The signal: The raise reflects a maturing market. When brands need independent measurement tools, it means real budgets are flowing — not just experimental ones. Adam Hart, partner at YFM, put it plainly: "As brand investment increases, the need for robust, independent measurement becomes critical."

GEEIQ is positioning itself as the analytics infrastructure layer for virtual worlds, much like what companies such as Sprout Social or Hootsuite became for social media. If gaming platforms keep growing as marketing channels, the company that owns the data and measurement layer stands to capture outsized value.
