Protime acquires Dutch workforce planning firm Checks
What's the deal? Protime, a Belgian workforce management software provider, has acquired Checks, a Dutch cloud software company specialising in workforce planning and scheduling. Checks serves more than 170 clients — including Dela, FrieslandCampina, and Avis — across sectors like manufacturing, logistics, waste management, government, and healthcare.
Checks' technology will be integrated into Protime's platform in the near term, with customers of both companies set to benefit from the combined offering. Checks will continue to operate as a separate entity with its own go-to-market approach, implementation team, and support department. Its co-founders will stay involved in commercial strategy, product development, and client relationships.
Why now? The European workforce management software market is growing fast. Organisations increasingly want integrated solutions that improve forecasting, reduce overstaffing and understaffing, cut overtime, and streamline scheduling. Protime sees Checks' technology as a foundation for building out its AI-driven planning platform.
"The technology, company culture, and client-focused approach of Checks align perfectly with our ambition to become the European reference in workforce management," said Jan Van Autreve, chief executive officer of Protime.
What could go wrong? Integration is always the hard part. Protime plans to fold Checks' technology into its own platform while keeping Checks running independently — a balancing act that can strain engineering resources and confuse customers if not handled carefully. No financial terms were disclosed, making it hard to assess whether Protime overpaid.
The signal: This deal reflects a broader consolidation wave in European HR tech and workforce management. As companies face tighter labour markets and rising wage costs, demand for smart scheduling tools is surging. Protime is using acquisitions to stitch together a full-stack workforce management platform and expand beyond the Benelux — a playbook several mid-market enterprise software players are running right now.
Checks co-founder Willem Boersma framed the deal as validation: "Joining a European market leader confirms our vision and the strength of our technology."
