EVSTART acquires Electrocan to scale EV charging across Canada

What's the deal? EVSTART, a sister company of Ontario-based Wyse Meter SolutionsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, has acquired Electrocan Power ServicesDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Southern Ontario electrical contractor that specialises in EV charging infrastructure. The deal brings Electrocan's turnkey installation capabilities in-house, giving EVSTART greater capacity to design and deliver charging systems for multi-residential and commercial buildings.

EVSTART works with property owners, developers, and public sector partners on EV charging projects. Electrocan has a track record in commercial, industrial, and multi-unit residential electrical work. Kenny Erlich and Zachary Himmel, now EVSTART's president and VP of operations respectively, co-founded Electrocan in 2022.

Why now? Canada's federal government is pushing a national automotive strategy that includes increased investment in EV infrastructure. As adoption accelerates, demand for providers that can deliver charging solutions at scale — for both public and private sector clients — is growing fast.

"As EV adoption accelerates, the market is shifting toward providers who can deliver at scale," said Dan Pinault, vice president of corporate development and strategy at Wyse.

What could go wrong? Integrating an acquired contractor into a parent company's operations is never seamless. Maintaining Electrocan's quality standards while scaling rapidly could prove challenging, especially as regulatory requirements around EV infrastructure continue to evolve across Canadian provinces.

The signal: Wyse Meter Solutions, classified as a breakout-stage company by Dealroom, is leveraging its position in building-level energy management to move deeper into EV infrastructure — a logical adjacency as property owners increasingly need integrated solutions for submetering, energy, and charging. Acquiring an early-growth contractor like Electrocan suggests the Canadian EV charging market is entering a phase where vertical integration, not partnerships, is becoming the preferred scaling strategy.
