Japan's Naht acquires X advertising specialist Newbuild
What's the deal? Tokyo-based marketing firm Naht has acquired Newbuild, a boutique agency specialising in advertising on X (formerly Twitter), bringing it into the Naht group. The deal, announced on May 15, marks Naht's first-ever M&A transaction. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Newbuild, founded in 2020 and led by chief executive Tetta Yamada — who has worked in X advertising since 2013 — will retain its leadership while integrating into Naht's broader organisation. Naht has formed a dedicated X advertising team combining Newbuild's operational expertise with its own influencer data and client network.
Why now? X's algorithm changes frequently, making specialised, experience-driven knowledge increasingly valuable. Newbuild's ad spend on X had been growing rapidly, but the company needed stronger recruitment, talent development, and organisational infrastructure to keep scaling — areas where Naht, a larger firm with established operations, can help.
Naht, meanwhile, already holds certifications as a Google Partner, Meta Business Partner, and X advertising agency. Adding Newbuild's deep X expertise fills a gap in its multi-platform strategy at a time the company says the broader social media marketing market is entering a mature phase.
What could go wrong? X remains a volatile platform — both algorithmically and commercially. Advertiser sentiment toward X has been uneven since Elon Musk's acquisition of the platform in 2022, and brands periodically pull spend over content moderation concerns. Building a growth strategy around X-specific expertise carries concentration risk.
Integration is another challenge. Naht's executive Imre Ichinosuke Miyashita acknowledged that "an M&A is only a success once the organisations are truly merged." Blending a small, specialist team into a larger corporate structure without losing the agility that made Newbuild effective will be the real test.
The signal: This deal reflects a broader trend in digital marketing: as social platforms fragment and evolve at different speeds, agencies are acquiring niche specialists rather than trying to build expertise in-house from scratch. Naht has explicitly positioned this acquisition as a template for future M&A, signalling ambitions well beyond social media advertising.
The company says it aims to become a "business creation marketing company" and is targeting revenue of US$1.54B with 3,000 employees by 2040. Expect more acquisitions as it tries to piece together a full-stack marketing group — one platform specialist at a time.
