Comau signs deal to acquire Brazilian intralogistics firm Invent
What's the deal? Comau, the Italian automation company, has signed a binding agreement to acquire 100% of Invent Smart Intralogistics Solutions, a Brazil-based firm specialising in warehouse automation and intralogistics for e-commerce and high-throughput distribution. The deal is expected to close in Q3 2026, pending regulatory approvals.
Why now? The acquisition follows Comau's earlier purchase of Automha, another intralogistics player, and fits into a broader expansion strategy focused on building a global automation hub with Italian roots. The Latin American and US mid-market intralogistics segments are seeing strong demand, with a projected compound annual growth rate of 13% over the next three to five years.
Combining Automha's storage technologies with Invent's AI-driven orchestration software will let Comau offer fully integrated material handling solutions — from storage and order fulfilment to intelligent flow management.
"Expanding Comau's capabilities through innovative companies such as Invent is a central pillar of our international growth strategy aimed at diversifying our competencies and technologies in different markets," said Pietro Gorlier, chief executive officer of Comau.
What could go wrong? Integration is always the hard part. Comau says Invent will keep its existing structure, management, and strategic vision post-acquisition — a sign it wants to avoid disruption. But merging complementary software and hardware platforms across geographies carries execution risk.
The signal: Industrial automation players are racing to assemble end-to-end logistics stacks, not just selling individual components. Comau's back-to-back acquisitions reflect a broader trend: as e-commerce volumes grow and supply chains grow more complex, customers want single providers that can handle everything from warehouse storage to AI-powered fulfilment. The land grab in intralogistics is on.
