Freshflow raises $10M Series A to cut food waste with AI

What's the deal? Berlin-based Freshflow has raised $10M in a Series A round led by Reimann InvestorsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →. The startup uses AI to automate inventory management, ordering, and forecasting for supermarkets — helping them cut food waste and boost revenue.

Freshflow's platform is live with nine grocery retailers across Germany and France. It integrates with existing IT systems to generate optimised order quantities in real time, factoring in weather, local events, and seasonal demand.

The results so far: retailers using the system report an average 30% reduction in food waste and a 16.7% increase in revenue.

Why now? Grocery is one of the last major retail sectors still reliant on manual inventory tracking and paper-based ordering — methods that are slow and error-prone, especially for perishable goods. Food waste accounts for roughly 5% of total retail waste in Europe, creating both a financial and environmental problem that regulators and consumers increasingly want solved.

Freshflow says its onboarding takes about a month, far faster than traditional system overhauls. That speed matters as grocers face margin pressure and growing sustainability mandates.

What could go wrong? Nine customers is a small base. Scaling across Europe means navigating different supply chains, IT systems, and regulatory environments in each market. Freshflow also faces competition from larger enterprise software providers that could add similar AI forecasting features to their existing platforms.

The company plans to expand into all fresh product categories and warehouse replenishment — a significant technical leap that will test whether its models generalise beyond current use cases.

The signal: Freshflow is classified as "early growth" stage on Dealroom, and this Series A — led by Reimann Investors, an investment fund tied to one of Germany's wealthiest entrepreneurial families — suggests a deliberate bet on founder-market fit in a sector where incumbent software providers have been slow to specialise. The round is modest by enterprise AI standards, but in grocery tech, where sales cycles are long and trust is hard-won, nine live retail deployments with documented waste and revenue impact give Freshflow a proof point that well-funded generalist competitors still lack.
