SpeedLabs raises $6.5M seed to build real-time sports betting markets

What's the deal? SpeedLabsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a New York-based startup, has closed a $6.5M seed round to develop what it calls Momentum Markets — a platform that generates sports betting markets in real time based on live game events. Parlay Capital led the round, with Bullpen CapitalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, TA Ventures, and EdgeEquity also participating.

The company plans to launch by summer 2026. It will use the funding to hire across engineering, machine learning, trading, and C-level roles.

Why now? Traditional sportsbooks rely on pre-set markets and fixed bet types, which don't adapt well to pivotal in-game moments — a key injury, a momentum-shifting play, or an unexpected lead change. SpeedLabs wants to fill that gap with AI-driven foundational models built specifically for sports, creating new markets instantly as games unfold.

The timing also tracks with broader market trends. Polymarket has demonstrated strong demand for short-duration prediction markets, and sports betting now accounts for roughly 90% of activity on US prediction markets. SpeedLabs sees an opening to merge real-time data with dynamic market creation.

"Sports betting is getting left behind," said chief executive officer Nick Meader. "Existing sportsbooks are restricted to outdated markets and bet types. The potential for trading based on live happenings is immense, especially in sports, where emotional engagement is highest."

What could go wrong? The product doesn't exist yet — a summer 2026 launch means SpeedLabs is still pre-product. Building reliable real-time market generation across multiple sports is technically complex, and integrating with existing sportsbooks and prediction platforms adds another layer of difficulty.

Regulatory risk looms large too. Sports betting rules vary widely across US states, and novel market types could draw scrutiny from regulators already grappling with the rapid expansion of online gambling.

The signal: SpeedLabs reflects a broader convergence of prediction markets, real-time AI, and sports entertainment. As platforms like Polymarket prove that users want faster, more granular ways to trade on outcomes, the sports betting industry — long dominated by incumbents with rigid products — faces pressure to innovate.

Greg Buonocore, chief executive officer of Parlay Capital, framed SpeedLabs as building "a foundational layer upon which the next generation of sportsbooks will thrive." If that proves true, the startup could become infrastructure for the industry rather than a competitor to it — a potentially much larger opportunity than building another sportsbook.
