Talkiatry raises $210M Series D to scale AI-powered psychiatry

What's the deal? Talkiatry has raised $210M in an oversubscribed series D round to expand its national psychiatry group and invest in AI. The round was led by Perceptive Advisors.

The New York-based startup employs more than 800 full-time psychiatrists, making it the largest private employer of psychiatrists in the US. It has delivered three million visits and is in network with more than 100 insurers, covering over 170 million lives.

The company says 87% of anxiety patients and 86% of depression patients see symptom improvement after two visits. It also reports dropout rates up to 60% lower than industry benchmarks and cost reductions of as much as $700 per member per month.

Why now? Demand for mental health care still outstrips supply, while health systems and insurers face pressure to cut costs and show outcomes. Talkiatry positions itself as a scaled, in-network alternative to fragmented telehealth models.

It says its AI platform automates administrative tasks, supports measurement-based care, and helps health systems route patients into treatment. The new capital will fund expansion into more complex cases.

What could go wrong? The model relies on recruiting and retaining psychiatrists in a tight labour market. Maintaining quality and outcomes at scale, especially with more acute patients, will be challenging.

AI use in clinical settings also faces scrutiny around data, safety, and regulation. Any failure could damage trust with payers and patients.

The signal: Investors are backing full-stack healthcare providers that combine employed clinicians with proprietary technology. The mix of equity and debt points to a company seeking more capital-efficient growth.

The round underscores a shift from telehealth marketplaces to vertically integrated care models focused on outcomes, cost control, and insurer partnerships. Mental health remains a key battleground for venture capital.
