Pennylane raises €175 million to accelerate AI development and European expansion

Pennylane has entered a new phase of its growth after confirming a $204 million (€175 million) Series E funding round that values the company at around $4.25 billion (€3.6 billion) , according to figures reported by BloombergDealroom has a profile for this one. The French accounting and financial management platform said it did not have an immediate need for capital but viewed the round as a strategic opportunity to partner with long-term investors while keeping dilution low. Founded in 2020, Pennylane develops an all-in-one platform used by startups, small and medium-sized businesses and their accountants, combining accounting production, payments and financial management in a shared workspace.

The funding comes as regulatory changes across Europe increase demand for compliant, automated financial infrastructure. France’s upcoming mandatory electronic invoicing regime, alongside similar reforms expected in other countries, is pushing accounting firms and businesses to modernize their financial systems — a shift Pennylane has been preparing for through early investments in compliance-focused features.

Pennylane said the new capital will be used to increase research and development spending, accelerate its AI roadmap and support expansion across Europe. This includes refining its product in Germany, where the company recently launched, and strengthening its payments and cash management offering. With revenues growing and profitability approaching, the confirmed round underscores Pennylane’s ambition to remain independent while scaling in a consolidating European accounting software market.
