CoMind Raises $60 Million to Advance Non-Invasive Brain Monitoring

London-based medical technology company CoMind has raised $60 million in new funding led by Plural, bringing its total financing to $102.5 million since its founding in 2018.

The company is developing a non-invasive device that uses low-powered infrared lasers to monitor cerebral blood flow, intracranial pressure, and autoregulation — crucial neurological metrics that are currently tracked using invasive procedures that involve drilling into the skull.

CoMind’s device aims to make brain monitoring safer, faster, and more accessible. Using optical and signal-processing techniques similar to those behind Lidar sensors in autonomous vehicles, it directs pulses of light through brain tissue and measures the returned signals to calculate changes in blood flow and oxygenation. This data could help clinicians detect complications earlier in patients with traumatic brain injury, stroke, or neurodegenerative conditions, and provide continuous monitoring during complex surgeries
