LegalOn Raises Over $130M to Expand Contract Review & Matter Management Globally
LegalOn Technologies , founded in 2017 in Japan by corporate lawyers, offers a cloud-based AI platform built for corporate legal teams and law firms to automate contract review and legal workflows. Now headquartered in Tokyo and San Francisco, the company combines cutting-edge AI with legal expertise to drive contract efficiency and reduce risk.
To date, LegalOn has raised over $130 million across five funding rounds , including a $101 million Series D in June 2022 led by SoftBank Vision Fund and Goldman Sachs Growth Equity. This funding supports both global expansion and product innovation.
LegalOn’s rapid growth is evident: it surpassed 7,000 paying enterprise customers globally by April 2025, up from 6,500 in early 2025. Its clients include enterprises across the U.S., Europe, and Asia, with strong traction particularly in publicly listed companies in Japan.
The platform recently expanded beyond contract review into full matter management , enabling corporate legal teams to intake, track, assign, and closely collaborate on legal requests across business functions. This upgrade integrates with existing tools like Review and LegalOn Assistant to streamline workflow from legal intake through resolution.
Under the hood, LegalOn supports a rich toolkit: AI review powered by attorney-curated playbooks, generative drafting and redlining, multilingual contract translation, and knowledge management features that help legal teams train and refine their own standards and playbooks.
