XTransfer is a business-to-business (B2B) financial technology company specializing in cross-border payment and financial services for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Founded in Shanghai in 2017 by Bill Deng and other former Ant Group employees, the company aims to provide SMEs with access to the same level of financial services as large multinational corporations. Deng, a graduate of Fudan University with extensive experience at Visa and Ant Financial, identified the challenges SMEs face in international trade, such as high fees and complex compliance procedures, and established XTransfer to address these issues. The company operates as a one-stop platform, offering services that include global collection and payment accounts, currency exchange, and risk management. XTransfer partners with prominent international banks like JPMorgan, Deutsche Bank, and Barclays to create a global financial network, enabling its clients to manage transactions in over 20 currencies across more than 200 countries and regions. A key feature of its business model is a data-driven, automated anti-money laundering (AML) and risk control infrastructure, which uses artificial intelligence to ensure compliance and security. Revenue is generated primarily through a 0.4% fee on transfers, a significant reduction compared to traditional banking rates. Since its inception, XTransfer has achieved significant milestones. It reached unicorn status in September 2021 after a Series D funding round of $138 million, which brought its total funding to $168 million and valued the company at over $1 billion. The firm serves over 700,000 enterprise clients globally and has expanded its physical presence with offices in Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, the United States, and several other countries. Initially focused on Chinese exporters, XTransfer is now expanding its services to SMEs worldwide, with a particular focus on Southeast Asia.
