About Singular Photonics
Singular Photonics is an Edinburgh University of Edinburgh spinout developing SPAD (single-photon avalanche diode) image sensors with on-chip computation for scientific, medical, industrial and physical-AI imaging. Co-founded by Professor Robert Henderson with Dr Aravind Venugopalan (CTO), Dr Neil Finlayson and CEO Shahida Imani, the company commercialises advanced sensors for applications such as time-resolved Raman spectroscopy, fluorescence lifetime imaging, machine vision and industrial automation, and has collaborated with instrumentation leader Renishaw. In August 2026 Singular Photonics closed an oversubscribed $2.15 million funding round led by ACF Investors with Wren Capital, Cambridge Angels, Scottish Enterprise, Quantum Exponential and Old College Capital, and appointed former Arm CTO Dipesh Patel to its board to accelerate next-generation sensors and scale engineering as sales traction grew.
