About Quantum Dice

Quantum Dice is a developer of quantum-based hardware for cybersecurity and advanced computing, spun out of the University of Oxford's Department of Physics in April 2020. The company was co-founded by Ramy Shelbaya (CEO), George Dunlop, Marko Mayr (CTO), Zhanet Zaharieva (COO), and Wenmiao Yu, a team of graduates from the university who won the inaugural Student Entrepreneurship Programme (StEP) Ignite competition in 2019. This victory provided them with initial funding and a license to develop patented technology from Oxford's Quantum Optics research group. Building on its success in cybersecurity, Quantum Dice has expanded into probabilistic computing with its ORBIT™ Probabilistic Processing Unit (PPU). Unveiled in 2025, the ORBIT architecture uses ultra-fast photonic probabilistic bits (p-bits) and the core DISC™ technology to create a scalable, room-temperature processor. This platform is designed to solve complex optimization problems and enable next-generation AI, targeting industries such as logistics, energy, and finance. The company has secured significant funding, including a £2 million pre-seed round in October 2021 and a €2 million grant from the European Innovation Council (EIC) Accelerator in December 2025 to advance its probabilistic computing platform. Key investors include Elaia Partners, IP Group, Oxford Science Enterprises, and Midven. Quantum Dice has established collaborations with NATS for air traffic management solutions, the STFC Hartree Centre, and BT Group to explore applications of its quantum technologies.
