Red 6 is an Orlando, Florida-based, veteran-founded company that develops outdoor, airborne augmented reality technology for military flight training. Describing itself as a hardware-enabled software company, Red 6 addresses the military flight training crisis, in which air forces face pilot shortages, aging aircraft and a limited ability to train against representative threats at scale, by creating realistic synthetic training experiences delivered in live flight.

Its flagship product, ATARS (Airborne Tactical Augmented Reality System), projects virtual, interactive and maneuvering adversaries and threats into a pilot's field of view while flying a real aircraft or in a ground-based mock cockpit. ATARS uses an extremely low-latency, waveform- and network-agnostic protocol to create seamless multi-player augmented reality experiences, viewed through the company's EVE (Enhanced Visual Environment) headset, a full-color, wide field-of-view, high-brightness display built for outdoor use in full daylight and high-speed environments. The system also generates data sets that help air forces measure readiness objectively and supports training for next-generation collaborative combat aircraft.

Red 6 has integrated ATARS on the T-38 Talon for the U.S. Air Force and received a contract to integrate it into the F-16 Fighting Falcon, its first operational fighter jet. The technology has also been flown on the MC-130 and on the Royal Air Force's Hawk T2, and Red 6 works with aerospace partners including Boeing, Lockheed Martin and BAE Systems.
