About OneLoad
OneLoad, a fintech platform developed by EP Systems, is a prominent player in Pakistan's journey towards financial inclusion. The company was founded in 2013 by Muhammad Yar Hiraj and Aezaz Hussain, with Mr. Hiraj currently serving as the CEO. Mr. Hiraj's background includes over a decade with Morgan Stanley's technology investment and advisory groups in New York, San Francisco, and Tokyo, coupled with degrees from Harvard and Brown University in Computer Science, Finance, and Public Administration. This experience in large-scale financial software systems has been pivotal in shaping OneLoad's strategy.

The firm operates as a subsidiary of Systems Limited, a major IT company in Pakistan. OneLoad has attracted significant investment from notable backers, including the International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank Group, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Sarmayacar, and Shorooq Partners. A key milestone was the August 2022 Series A funding round, which raised $11 million to expand its product offerings.
OneLoad's core business revolves around empowering Pakistan's vast network of micro-retailers. The platform provides an all-in-one app that enables these small shopkeepers, who serve millions of unbanked customers, to offer a range of digital and financial services. Initially focused on allowing retailers to sell mobile airtime from any telecom operator through a single, interoperable balance, the service eliminates the need for retailers to manage separate inventories of prepaid cards. This increases their income and drives customer traffic.
The business model generates revenue through commissions on the services offered. The platform has since expanded significantly. Retailers can now process utility bill payments, facilitate money transfers, sell international vouchers for services like Netflix, and provide deposit and withdrawal services for various digital wallets. A strategic objective is to leverage its Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license, for which it has received in-principle approval from the State Bank of Pakistan, to transform retailer accounts into fully-fledged bank accounts, complete with debit cards and QR code payment acceptance. The company is also venturing into providing working capital loans and liquidity solutions to its network of retailers, addressing their financial needs directly.
