Founded in April 2014 by Justin Yuan and Xu Zhenhua, Moonton Technology is a video game developer and publisher headquartered in Shanghai, China. Justin Yuan, who serves as CEO, graduated from Tongji University's Department of Computer Science in 2003 and gained experience at major gaming companies like Shengqu Games and Tencent before co-founding Moonton. Xu Zhenhua was previously a senior employee at Tencent. This background in game operations and development was pivotal in shaping Moonton's trajectory.

The company's core business revolves around developing and publishing free-to-play mobile games, with its primary revenue generated through in-app purchases. Its flagship product, "Mobile Legends: Bang Bang" (MLBB), is a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game released in 2016. MLBB pits two teams of five against each other in fast-paced, 10-minute matches on a classic three-lane map, where the objective is to destroy the enemy's base. The game became immensely popular, particularly in Southeast Asia, surpassing 1 billion downloads by November 2020 and boasting 110 million monthly active users as of early 2024.
