Moonton's first game was a tower defense title called "Magic Rush: Heroes," released in 2015. The experience gained from this initial project informed the development and global market strategy for MLBB. A significant milestone in the company's history was its acquisition by ByteDance's gaming subsidiary, Nuverse, on March 22, 2021, for a reported valuation of approximately $4 billion. This strategic acquisition was aimed at strengthening ByteDance's position in the competitive gaming industry. Following the acquisition, Moonton continues to operate independently.
