MetaX Integrated Circuits is a Chinese semiconductor company that develops general-purpose graphics processing units (GPGPUs) for artificial intelligence and high-performance computing applications. Founded in Shanghai in September 2020 by former AMD employees Chen Weiliang, Peng Li, and Yang Jian, the firm has positioned itself as a domestic competitor to international market leaders like Nvidia. The founding team's background includes an average of nearly 20 years of experience in the GPU sector, having led the development of multiple mainstream high-performance GPU products.

The company's business model revolves around the design and sale of full-stack GPU chips and solutions for a diverse client base in sectors such as intelligent computing, smart cities, cloud computing, autonomous vehicles, and digital twins. MetaX has secured substantial funding from both government-related entities, including the China Structural Reform Fund and China Internet Investment Fund, and private venture capital firms like Sequoia China and Lightspeed Venture Partners. This financial backing supports the company's research and development efforts in a bid to foster China's self-sufficiency in the critical semiconductor industry. In January 2025, the company was reported to have filed for an initial public offering (IPO).

MetaX offers a product portfolio that includes three main series of GPUs, each tailored for specific market needs. The MXN series is designed for AI inference in cloud data centers, the MXC series focuses on AI training and general computing, and the MXG series is intended for graphical rendering. A key product, the C500 AI training GPU, demonstrated significant performance capabilities upon its successful testing in June 2023. Another notable product, the N100 AI inference GPU, entered mass production in 2023 for applications in smart cities and cloud computing. The company has developed its own software stack, MXMACA, which is compatible with mainstream GPU ecosystems, and holds independent intellectual property for its instruction set and architecture. In response to US export controls, MetaX has reportedly adjusted chip designs to maintain its supply chain.
