Bringing local restaurants to millions of doorsteps across the world. MoreLess

Just Eat Takeaway.com is one of the world's largest online food delivery marketplaces, connecting tens of millions of customers with hundreds of thousands of local restaurants and merchant partners. Through its family of consumer brands, the company enables people to discover, order and pay for food from local restaurants for delivery or pickup via its websites and mobile apps, while giving restaurants access to a large base of hungry customers, logistics support and marketing reach they could not achieve on their own. The company traces its origins to 2000, when founder Jitse Groen launched the business as a student in Enschede, the Netherlands, under the name Thuisbezorgd.nl. Over the following two decades it grew into Takeaway.com, listed on Euronext Amsterdam in 2016, and expanded across Continental Europe, including the 2014 acquisition of the German business now operating as Lieferando. The present-day group was formed in January 2020 through the merger of Takeaway.com and the UK-based Just Eat plc — a combination cleared by the UK Competition and Markets Authority in April 2020 — creating Just Eat Takeaway.com N.V., headquartered in Amsterdam. Today the group operates across roughly twenty countries in Europe and beyond, through a portfolio of well-known local brands including Just Eat and Lieferando, Thuisbezorgd.nl, Pyszne.pl, Menulog in Australia and New Zealand, and SkipTheDishes in Canada. In North America, the company acquired US-based Grubhub in 2021 before divesting it in 2025 as part of a strategic refocusing on its core European and international markets. This multi-brand, hyperlocal approach allows the company to combine the scale and technology of a global platform with brands that consumers and restaurants recognise and trust in each individual market. The business operates a marketplace model at its core: restaurants list their menus on the platform, customers place orders through the app or website, and the company earns a commission on each order processed, complemented by delivery fees and additional services. Alongside its traditional marketplace, where restaurants handle their own delivery, the company also offers its own logistics and delivery network, giving restaurant partners the option to outsource delivery to the platform's couriers. It serves both individual consumers seeking convenience and choice, and corporate clients, who use its tools to manage employee food ordering with features such as flexible budgets and consolidated invoicing. In February 2025, technology investment group Prosus N.V. agreed to acquire Just Eat Takeaway.com for approximately €4.1 billion (€20.30 per share in cash). Following regulatory clearances, the offer was declared unconditional in October 2025, and the company was delisted from Euronext Amsterdam in November 2025, becoming part of Prosus's global food delivery portfolio. In December 2025, founder Jitse Groen announced he would step down as CEO after 25 years, with Roberto Gandolfo — Head of Prosus Europe and former iFood executive — succeeding him as Chief Executive Officer effective 1 January 2026. As part of one of the world's leading online food delivery groups, Just Eat Takeaway.com continues to focus on strengthening its position in its core markets, investing in technology and logistics, and helping local restaurants reach more customers while making everyday food ordering simple, reliable and convenient.
