Greenerwave

Greenerwave is a French deep-tech company founded in 2015 as a spin-off from the Langevin Institute, a joint research center of ESPCI Paris and CNRS. The founders are Geoffroy Lerosey, a former CNRS researcher, and Mathias Fink, a professor at ESPCI Paris. Their work is based on pioneering research in shaping electromagnetic waves that began in 2012, adapting concepts from optics to microwaves.

The company's core technology revolves around reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) and advanced, physics-inspired algorithms that enable the dynamic, real-time steering of electromagnetic waves. This approach shifts complexity from hardware to software, using simple, off-the-shelf electronic components to create metasurfaces that act like controllable mirrors for radio waves. This results in solutions that are significantly more energy-efficient, less expensive, and less reliant on semiconductors compared to traditional technologies like phased arrays. The technology is protected by a portfolio of at least nine patents.

Greenerwave's business model is focused on developing and commercializing products for several key markets: satellite communications (SatCom), terrestrial telecommunications (5G/6G), radar, and RFID. Its primary product is a low-power, electronically steerable flat-panel antenna for the SatCom market, designed to provide multi-orbit (GEO/LEO) connectivity for on-the-move applications in the defense, aerospace, and automotive sectors. These terminals offer an agnostic solution compatible with various satellite constellations and communication protocols. The company serves clients including satellite operators, defense agencies, and major industrial players.

Since its inception, Greenerwave has secured significant funding, including a Series A round of €15 million in February 2024, bringing its total funding to over $16 million. Key investors include Safran Corporate Ventures, Intelsat, BNP Paribas Développement, Plastic Omnium, and the French government's Defence Innovation Fund managed by Bpifrance. Headquartered in Paris, the company has expanded its operations with a new office in the aerospace hub of Toulouse to accelerate industrialization and testing. As of mid-2025, the company employed nearly 120 people.
